Mar 10, 2008 Martine hails from Brooklyn. It's been over a decade since Martine Girault's debut single Revival hit the. Also known as 'rare groove crate.
This breathtakingly beautiful piece of sublime soul came out of London in 1992. In a era when everybody that wanted to 'be somebody' on the soul scene, was trying to recreate a rare groove, acid jazz sound, Dalston's Finest was just doing his thing. Ray Hayden came across this smokey, Brooklyn chanteuse and decided her voice would sound good on his music.

Martine Girault Revival
All three are more than competent on keyboards and the result is a most incredible four and a half minutes of lounge bar soul. In 1992 this release was voted, deservedly so, Best Soul Record of the year by DMC. This particular 12' was a Limited Edition on the Opaz Records label.
It features an Instrumental and the bonus track, Nothin's Gonna Change, which was a dancefloor killer at the time. Revival. Rap Interlude. Revival Theme. Nothin's Gonna Change The Download Link is here: Filename: Martine Girault - 1992 Revival L.rar Filesize: 31.45 MB ffrr Records FX 205.
For some reason, probably because of the demand, the record was handed to ffrr for a major release. This was a great move because the new 12' featured a new track. The Funky Vibes Mix of Revival does little to improve the actual song but makes an interesting bit of dance fodder.
On the flip though, we have 'cause It Matters To Me which is as good as Revival and makes for a hell of a release. The Quiet Fire version is the real gem but Renaisance is also worthy. Revival. Hello, thanks for your very nice blog. I was lurking for quite a while so it's time to participate. If you are interested, here are 2 further remixes of 'Revival' from a latter release on RCA (together with a ridiculous 'Bad Boy' Remix featuring Puff 'Diddy' Daddy. The 'Uptight' Mix is done by 2 guys from Austria and features the Bassline of Lowrell'S 'Mellow Mellow Right On' while the other is done by 'simon & Diamond' from the UK. Both ripped from my 12' and i apologise for the noise on track 2. Nevertheless enjoy!
Martine hails from Brooklyn, New York. At the young age of twelve she was already charming audiences, having taken over from Stephanie Mills in the lead role as Dorothy in Broadway musical The Wiz. This led to theatre and stage work all over the world. Martine had been touring in the UK in 1991 when she met Ray Hayden from Opaz Productions during a recording with Amii Stewart. A documentary featuring footage taken during the making of her 1991 debut LP is currently being compiled. It's been over a decade since Martine Girault's debut single Revival hit the charts, and in every sense it is a true urban classic.
In 1992 it was voted best soul record of the year at the world DMC music awards, having entered the charts at number 1. Her performance at the Royal Albert Hall was broadcast live on Kiss FM. DJs like Bob Jones, Giles Peterson and David Rodigan played a major role in breaking the record. Revival found its way onto numerous film soundtracks including Bullet with Mickey Rourke and legendary rapper Tu Pac Shakur, and more recently featured in Meg Ryan's controversial In The Cut. Nescafe added flavour to their TV advertising with Revival and it has featured on over thirty compilation CDs. Intro (Interlude) 2. Bring Back Our Love 3.

Acid jazz (also known as club jazz) is a musical genre that combines elements of soul music, funk, disco, particularly looping beats and modal harmony. It developed over the 1980s and 1990s and could be seen as tacking the sound of jazz-funk onto electronic dance/ pop music. The compositions of groups such as The Brand New Heavies and Incognito often feature chord structures usually associated with Jazz music. The Heavies in particular were known in their early years for beginning their songs as catchy pop and rapidly steering them into jazz territory before 'resolving' the composition and thus not losing any pop listeners but successfully 'exposing' them to jazz elements in 'baby steps'.
The acid jazz 'movement' is also seen as a 'revival' of jazz-funk or jazz fusion or soul jazz by leading DJs such as Norman Jay or Gilles Peterson or Patrick Forge, also known as 'rare groove crate diggers'.
