Angel sanctuary manga

Overall 10 Story 10 Art 10 Character 10 Enjoyment 10 In a world where most manga can be summed up in a sentence or two, Angel Sanctuary is a breath of fresh air. It is the only series that I can with confidence give perfect 10's across the board. As I am writing this, I find it much harder to be articulate than when I give a negative or mixed review, because when a story really blows you away, it's hard to express exactly why. If I had to sum up the theme of this series, it would be this; 'What are the thresholds of love'.

This isn't due to the main romance in the series, which is between a boy and his sister. Rather, it covers the entire cast of characters, many of whom have been deeply touched by some kind of love that is deemed unacceptable in the eyes of society and God. There are two reasons why people put this series down, and many people do. The first is based on the reader's maturity. This is a manga that deals with blood, incest, transgendered issues, rape, homosexuality, religion, and death.

I have spoken to several people who's knee jerk reaction to Kaori Yuki's approach on these issues as 'ewwwwwwww'. To be frank, not every reader is mature enough to read a story that presents these topics in an open minded way. The second reason is a bit more easy to understand, and that is that In Angel Sanctuary's early volumes, it went through a bit of an identity crisis. While still being excellent and gripping, it also jumps around in it's focal point and doesn't clearly lay the story out for the reader. Volume 1 in particular is guilty of this and leaves one wondering what exactly the focus of the story even is.

However, if the reader is willing to work past this, they will find themselves pleasantly surprised. Angel Sanctuary is divided up into three arcs. The first few volumes are known as the Earth Arc. The middle is the Hell arc. The last leg is known as the heaven arc.

Lawmakers in California on Saturday passed “sanctuary state” legislation to limit police cooperation with federal immigration authorities and give illegal. 'Sanctuary' is episode 19 of season 1 in the television show Angel. Co-written by Tim Minear and series creator Joss Whedon and directed by Michael Lange.

These are all based on the primary location of the main character Setsuna. All three shed a different light on Angel Sanctuary's incredibly complex world; from the deadly depths to the hypocritical and morbid politics of heaven. Beyond our main character, the primary cast of the series consists of about 20 characters, who are all given equal face time, and their own unique backstories. This is part of the elegance of Angel Sanctuary.

Normally, such a large cast of characters offers little chance of development, leaving most of the characters as cliche shells for the main character to interact with. In Angel Sanctuary's case, every single character is touched with perfect detail. They are all given a task or something to overcome, and each of them are given the chance to grow and develop in such a way that you end up caring just as much for the side characters as you do the main character himself. Most of these characters are incredibly morally ambiguous, and the line between good and evil is absolutely invisible in this manga. Characters that you believe to be good act unforgivably, and characters that may seem like the most horrible monsters in fiction can become great victims. Redemption and corrupted innocence are both major themes that come into play repetitively. This series also raises great questions about the divinity of God and heaven, the origins of evil, and of course, the limitations (or lack there of) of man's love.

This is one series that has the ability to touch just about anybody as long as one is willing to take it on with an open mind. It is bloody and actioned packed, so though it is a shoujo series, it could also easily appeal to men as well as women. Though it has slight faults within it's first few volumes, those are not nearly serious enough to take away from the value of the series as a whole; and even those first few volumes are quite good by manga standards.

This is one manga that everybody should take a crack at at least once just to see if they can handle the ride. Overall 8 Story 6 Art 8 Character 7 Enjoyment 8 If you like weird and dark stories that are convulted which make you question the difference between good and evil, coupled with great art, then this is a series for you. The premise of this series is about a boy(Setsuna) who is a reincarnation of a rebel angel named Alexiel whose crimes against heaven have her reincarnated until the end of time. Each of her lives ends in tragedy until her brother Rosiel is awakened which also in turn drags Setsuna into the middle of things. Confused yet? Just wait, it gets more convulted with political intrigue in Heaven and what is happening in Hell.

The way the story unfolds makes for some interesting characters who are all sympathetic and repulsive in some fashion. Nearly every character has some sort of motivation which will either make him/her hated or loved. So can be said of the side characters. Setsuna, the main character, is a rather cookie cutter reluctant hero. I found nothing endearing nor did I relate to him. Of course, that could be because of the impossibility of the premise of this series. I found the parts with him as the focus plain boring.

I can also say the same of Setsuna's sister Sara. She was feisty but still couldn't help being the damsel in distress. I will applaud her for being faithful to Setsuna though. The things that could be taken or left for some readers are the shock-value of the love between Setsuna and Sara who are indeed blood siblings, gender-bending, a bit of a sympathetic Satan, and the fast-paced story which goes from one arc to the next without much of a breather. Overall 10 Story 9 Art 10 Character 10 Enjoyment 10 This manga is kind of confusing because the story line becomes is some what complex. The manga centers around your average highschooler Sentuna Mudo. But somethings different about him then his fellow classmates for one he is in love with his little sister Sara and he is houseing the soul od the fallen Organic Angel Alexiel, who is one of the highest beings in existence.

From there his life thats a drmatic change and the story really takes off. From there you'll be brought into hell and heaven see all knids of different devils and angels. Its a must read for anyone looking to have a good time. Overall 4 Story 4 Art 5 Character 7 Enjoyment 4 Arguably one of the most confusing mangas I have ever read, with so many twists and turns that one might think of this as a rollercoaster. This manga is not recommended for younger readers and those who follow religions as this manga is certainly blasphemy, with the whole notion of Incest, Gay angels, Angel Rape, heaven as a corrupt place and a 'God' a maniac bent on the destruction of earth just because 'it' wants to. Artwork is ok, but the artist's continually draws the characters too feminine, so much that it gets quite confusing as in who is who. Although, character depth is quite good as the author really gets into the conflict of the main character.

This manga is similar to Neon Genesis (the whole god, Armageddon thing). Yet unlike neon genesis, angel sanctuary actually made me quite quezy and not all that enjoyable (not just because of the whole incest thing). If you do read this be warned.

Also don't watch the Anime, it's a complete mess and misses a whole lot of things (it is only 3 episodes).

Synopsis Setsuna Mudo is a college freshman, just trying to get by without running afoul of his bullying seniors. It doesn't help that he's in love with his sister, Sara, who only sees him once a month. But there's more to his life than just keeping his head down. Setsuna is ambushed by mysterious beings, angels, and demons, all professing to know his true destiny. The angels say he is the reincarnation of their leader Alexiel, while the demons claim he led them to war against God himself. As Setsuna struggles with his identity in such strange times, the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell threatens to reignite. Will he be prepared when it does?

Overall 3 Story 4 Animation 5 Sound 4 Character 3 Enjoyment 3 I take this opportunity to advocate that you go read the manga before you try this OVA. The manga is light years beyond this drek in terms of. Well, pretty much everything.

Needless to say this OVA does NOT do the manga any justice. Some of the animation sequences are pretty, but beyond that, this just sucks. The characters come off flat and obnoxious, and the story seems pointless and haphazard-there is no tension, and it feels like there are no stakes. This does not feel like a semi-Apocalyptic war between the forces of Heaven and Hell. It feels like.

Like every other bad pseudo-Biblical post-Evangelion catasterfuck of an anime. If you're hardcore Christian and would be offended by a rebellion against God being told from the perspective of Fallen Angels, skip it. If not, skip it anyway and read the manga.

You'll be glad you did. Overall 2 Story 3 Animation 2 Sound 3 Character 3 Enjoyment 1 Great, another incestuous gay demon supernatural bishounen bishoujo anime. I find myself being redundant if I say 'another stupid anime made from a sub-par manga'. First off, the story is awful and had some of the worst plot I ever saw. It basically follows one guy perving on his younger sister and then angels trying to destroy the earth since the demons are ironically the good guys. It pretty much goes like this: Boy: I wanna bone my sister!!

Sister: I'm pointless! Demons: AH, ANGELS!! The art was terrible-it looked like every character tripped and fell into Liberace's closet because their colour coordination in their clothes and hair was totally unfabulous.

The characters are stupid. Literally stupid.

They have no other drive than to serve as boring plot devices to shake and not stir up forced controversy. I cannot enjoy an anime for being so ridiculous.

What a pile of trash-I would rather be locked in a toilet that can't flush than watch this ever again. Overall 9 Story 10 Animation 9 Sound 9 Character 10 Enjoyment 9 Angels are God's messengers that protect humans from danger because they are the good guys. Unlike most stories, the bad guys (the daemons) are the good guys in Angel Sanctuary. Some viewers may find this OVA offensive and sacriligious; however, it isn't an insult on Christianity. It's a fictional story reversing the roles for once and isn't meant to be persecuting Christianity; just showing the other side of the coin. There are far more films and television shows using crude humour towards Christianity in North America, which are a million times more offensive than Angel Sanctuary. Putting that aside, the mood for Angel Sanctuary is very dark.

It's a gothic drama dealing with the supernatural. It's gory and mature, so younger viewers may not like it. The animation is very good for the year 2000.

It doesn't have any computer graphics but it wasn't necessary: the pencil and ink animation was perfect enough. The low-lights in the hair, also the texture of the hair (pretty much everything about the hair) to characters is very wispy and detailed. Short haired people would be envious of the long, flowy hair that these two-dimensional anime characters possess.

There isn't anything bad about the animation other than it's a little out of date. (But not by much) The sound is simplistic, but sets the mood to the OVA. The music has the dark motif to the OVA, which makes Angel Sanctuary more gothic. Could have used more instruments and a more difficult melody, but the music does what it's supposed to: give the viewer the dramatic feeling. Although English dubs aren't nearly as bad as many Japanophiles claim, the English dub to Angel Sanctuary was terrible. The acting was alright, the voices were what killed the dub.

They sounded way too cartoony for a serious drama that was aimed at a mature audience. Crispin Freeman saved the dub as he showed his genius skills in the role of Rosiel.

Angel Sanctuary Buffy

The voice of Setsuna (Scott Cargle) sounded more like a fourty year old than an older teenager. Watch this OVA in Japanese, it's much better.

The Characters were well developed and didn't have cliche personalities. Sarah's personality is a little too happy, which was the only problem.

There is incest in this story line, but Kaori Yuki pulled it off. Winavi all in one converter. The incest shows how Setsuna and Sarah struggle to ignore their feelings in a forbidden relationship and not an episode of Jerry Springer. (They know incest is wrong) Like the theme, they are condemned sinners. Without the mood the incest wouldn't work. The bad guys aren't extremely evil as most antagonists are portrayed.

Then again, everything is reversed. Those who are into dark anime aimed at a mature audience would like Angel Sanctuary. It's tragic, but doesn't require a box of Kleenex.

(just a couple) The manga has twenty volumes while the OVA has three episodes, meaning the end of the OVA isn't the end of the series. Angel Sanctuary should have been an anime series because the storyline scratches the surface. Also, the OVA hooks you into wanting more. It's a promotion or teaser for the manga. With the exceptional storyline and excellent animation, Angel Sanctuarty is one of the best OVA's made.

Overall 3 Story 2 Animation 5 Sound 4 Character 3 Enjoyment 1 I know I've overrated this anime, but for me Angel Sanctuary harbors memories I hold close to my heart. This review was originally written in the diary of a young warrior who is no longer among us.

Accused of committing high treason he was exiled from the country, but he was given a choice, either that or just watch Angel Sanctuary 100 times over and write a detailed essay on it. Unaware of the danger that lay before him he went with option B.The poor soul was found hanging in his lockup the following day. Not to brag, but I am far superior to him for I have watched it and I survived. Oh right this is supposed to be a review. So, the central character of this story is this constantly bullied guy with a sister complex, where his sister has an equally noteworthy bro-com.

I also got the vibe that their mother has a daughter complex from her sadistic behavior towards her son. Where is this going? What an ignorant question! It's a battle against god of course.

I have to explain everything, don't I? Obviously because the angels tried to destroy the earth. And so with the power of the lead character it's up to Setsuna Mudo to defeat god and save her sister from food poisoning.
